Out to improve our planning and site visit record today and almost succeeded. 2 Out of three ain't bad (though remembering such a song is).
Made the Nationale museum. Wonderful stuff set in great space. Coin history, Marble statues, Mosaics and fresco's. With the paintings set up as they would have been in the rooms and corridor's of  homes.
A word of praise for the Percy Jackson books - Max rattled off all the related connections to every Roman god and goddess mentioned. Our own private guide. (and we didn't have to pay him!)
The building has an internal courtyard that brings it's own peace and quite to the setting.

The joy of being semi lost is you discover little gems of streets.

T
Max feeling the vibe of a 2000 year  old building that holds more people than his beloved SCG. They could hold the AFL grand final!

An ancient theatre we walk past everyday

The devil is in the detail so true of some of the marble work in the Nationale Museum

Hit the Metro for a rattling speed run to the Colosseum. The scale is huge it held up to 75,000 spectators. Was designed so people were seated within 10 minutes of entering. Water was free (do you hear that SCG?) and alcohol was limited by a token system (didn't use plastic cups either). It's a hell of a structure for today never mind 2000 year ago. Originally it was covered in marble tiles (as where the Pyramids) it must have been blinding in the midday sun.

After the Colosseum we were to head to St CLemintine museum. We made the mistake of stopping for a beer. As the whole slumped into the chairs it was clear weren't going to get there today.

Lots of places to eat in the lanes around the apartment. Italians are generous in the servings ordering 2 courses can easily be too much. They also like salt. Last nights meal was our best. Though the one we want to go to is booked out. The eateries are quite small around 20-30 seats and so far the service has been great. We partake in coffee as the locals do order and stand at the servery. No sitting down for a 20 minute chat etc. Its throw down the espresso a quick chat and most are out the door in about 5 minutes. Even ordering pastry means standing and eating.
