Sicily the good and the bad

We had a day of Catania heading for 38 degrees! Head for the hills - so we did. To Mt Etna the luna or Mars landscaped Volcano.  It had a small eruption last month. But was quite for our visit. Kerry and Kate chose a great guide for the day. Raenna a Prague local who now spends the summer on Sicily and the winter in Prague. From a distance the lava flows look like rivers of black. Up close the scale of the flows is astonishing. Millions of cubic metres.
The guided tour also took in a bit of mini caving into a lava tube. The kids loved this hearing parents (actually I think I was the only one doing it) crack heads on the ceiling (thank god for the helmets).
More later we are off to the fish markets and another breakfast of pastries.
